i) From this brief introduction, describe the "tipping point."
The tipping point is when ideas, products, messages, and or behaviors spread just like viruses do.This means that they take a mind of their own and they spread like a wild fire and everyone wants to be part of it.The tipping point is the point where it becomes popular to do something that someone else is doing.
ii) at what point does something "tip"
For something to tip it needs three characteristics to be met.Something having contagiousness, little causes can have big effects, and that change does not happen gradually but in one moment. It just takes flight in one instance once the bug has been caught.
iii) Gladwell asserts that "gradualism" is the norm, that most of us, by nature, are
gradualists. Is there room in our ordered society for "tippers"? If so, where and how?
I think most of us are gradual by nature that means that most of us are not tippers. But I think we need the tippers in our world to make things catch.I do not think most people plan to be tippers they are just being themselves and things catch and become big.I think that these tippers are needed to keep our economy working and ideas moving in different directions.
b) Chapter 1. The Three Rules of Epidemics
1) What are the three rules of epidemics?
The three rules of epidemics are the law of few, the stickiness factor, and the power of context.
2) What is the 80/20 principle?
This is the law of few.It states that 80% of the work is done by 20% of the people. This is true in many cases: crimes, accidents and alcoholics. It is also true when talking about the tipping point.
3) Who is R. J. Reynolds?
R.J. Reynolds are the marketers that sell the Winston cigarettes. They came up with some fabulous ideas of how to sell and market the cigarettes.
