Who do you know in your school that is an example of a connector, maven or salesman? Perhaps you are one of them. Give specific examples w/o necessarily using their names.

 

A connector at my school has lived in this community for her entire life.  Anywhere, that she goes she knows someone or knows of someone.  She has held many different positions in the community and so has her family.  Therefore, she knows many different people due to her various job holdings and interests in the community as well as her families.

A maven at my school has only moved to this community lately.  Previously she lived in a military setting.  She is very outgoing.  She relates to everyone by knowing a little something about everything.  When she finds out an interest of yours she will tell you everything she knows, tell you where she got the information, and help you find more information.

At my school there is a saleswoman.  She is outspoken and funny.  When she speaks, everyone listens.  If she told us anything was a good idea, we would follow her lead.

 

How would you use the theories in this book to build membership in your Local?

 

My membership plan for this next year would be to enlist the connectors, mavens, and salesmen.  Then I would explain to them, why I think they represent these titles.  Next, I would ask them to work their own magic as we come up with an easy way and incentive for joining.  Perhaps, I would work with our technology coordinator to set up an online form.  Then I would plant an incentive, money is a good one and the one we have right now.  Currently, new members get 25 dollars for signing up and those members that help them sign up get 25 dollars. ( Perhaps if the money was more visible more members would sign up. )  Then the incentive would help it tip.

I agree that your cash incentive would help tip your membership. I think the three people you described are jewels in your plan.
