Georgia Sadler used hair stylists to tip her diabetes and cancer campaign. She let her message flow through the beauty shop gossip.I would think that she is a maven, because she had the knowledge to share with the connectors and salesman.
Gladwell’s view of the Band-Aid solution is that it “is actually the best kind of solution because it involves solving a problem with the minimum amount of effort and time and cost.”
Two lessons from the Tipping Point are:we have to look at things differently and adapt to situations based on what has been learned.
Afterword
If the AIDS epidemic had been combated as a social phenomenon, maybe the spread of AIDS could have tipped, or gone down based on those things.
Gladwell means that all the new things in the world will lead us to rely more on word of mouth.
Gladwell uses the phrases “the Age of Isolation” to describe adolescent epidemics.
Gladwell talks about an increase or copying of school shootings based on Columbine. It is like the Micronesian suicide epidemic.
The “fax effect” is “ the law of plentitude”.The more there is the more it is worth.“Immunity” negates the “fax effect” by stopping it.“ When to many people get immunity to a particular virus, the epidemic comes to an end.”
Week 6
--The connectors in the school are the ones you go to who know what is going on.They are in the lounge and seem to know everything. The mavens in the school know a lot they seem to have been there longer and understand how things work and are willing to share their knowledge. The salesmen are the ones that are hard to say no to when they want you to do something.
--I think word of mouth and having the right people spreading the message, can build membership.
--I think the association and the benefits it has needs to be publicized more through word of mouth and also through the connectors and salesmen we have within our association.
I think it is important and helpful to utilize the people we have on staff to help build our membership. People would be more likely to listen to someone they know rather than bringing someone in from the outside to recruit.
I agree with you, Holli, about spreading the word about membership with our own group. We just need to promote our association from within our school by being well informed.
