Chapter 6

  1. Airwalk sneakers tipped, because of their advertising.  Business eventually drops because they mainstreamed their product.
  2. The five categories of people who use new products are:  Innovators, Early Adopters, Early Majority, Late Majority, and Laggards.
  3. The process of distortion that characterizes most rumors is that of assimilation.
  4. The researchers at John Hopkins University found what the connectors were doing and tried to change their habits and knowledge, which in turn could help change the drug problem.
  5. The Beastie Boys supported the Free Tibet campaign, and publicized it at their concerts.
  6. Airwalk advertising was successful, because they used weird advertising to appeal to youth.
  7. An Innovator is someone that does something different.
  8. The innovators originate the trend or idea that the Connectors change up and pass on to Mavens and Salesmen.
  9. I know a few innovators, people who don’t care what other people think.  They do things because they feel it should be that way, not because someone told them it should be that way.
  10. Trends work by Innovators starting an idea and a Connector changing it to fit society and passing it on to Mavens and Salesmen who spread the trend farther and farther.
  11. There have been a lot of trends in fashion that seem to pass and not stick.  The trends that last seem to be the ones that are a lifestyle choice, for example eating organic.

 

Chapter 7

  1. The suicide of the young boy made it okay for others to do it.
  2. Permission-giving is making something that isn’t okay, okay.
  3. Influential figures make it okay for teens to smoke.
  4. Society has tried to educate youth of the dangers of smoking, and restricted advertising.
  5. They don’t work, he thinks cigarettes should try to be less addictive
  6. Chippers only smoke occasionally, while addicted chronic smokers have to smoke regularly.
  7. The Colorado Adoption Project showed no correlation between environment and children.
  8. Depressed people tend to smoke.
  9. Zyban has caused people to not need to smoke.
  10. Addiction threshold is your body’s toleration of the nicotine.
  11. The smoking personality is fun, sexy, and rebellious.
  12. Those are the traits teenagers want in themselves.
  13. I think peers have a lot of influence, but I still firmly believe if you instill family from the start in a healthy environment, they will go back to that. 
  14.  The only person that influences my decisions is my family.
  15.  I think some teens smoke because of peer pressure.
  16. I don’t know if kids stop listening to their parents, they may ignore them from time to time, but I think kids still hear.  The other problem is parents aren’t talking.
  17. Why couldn’t a cigarette with less nicotine and chemicals be created?
