Who do you know in your school that is an example of a connector, maven or salesman? Perhaps you are one of them. Give specific examples w/o necessarily using their names.
At Wiley, one of my fellow high school teachers is a good example of a maven. She is the person that you can ask numerous questions to and she has information that will help or at least ideas of how to find ideas and examples. She is involved in numerous organizations and activities. This makes a huge difference by giving her many connections and experiences on a wide variety of educational topics.
How would you use the theories in this book to build membership in your Local?
I would use the theories of the tipping point by doing whatever I could to promote the benefits of being a member.Hopefully by continually promoting membership, it will attract others and like the Paul Revere ride, each person that is contacted will communicate to others.Eventually, the message will spread and group membership will grow.
Now do it... build a Local membership plan for your school district. Using Gladwell's theories and principles, show us a comprehensive action plan for the upcoming school year.
1.Meet with current members at the beginning of the year.
2.Plan a staff activity that allows each staff member to see the benefits of membership.
3.Assign each current member a list of nonmembers to contact individually to discuss membership.
4.Have regular meetings were each member can voice their ideas of what we can do to change and improve our district.
5.Use some school media to communicate the happenings to the entire school body and community.
I like the idea of personal contact by dividing up the non-members systematically. It would be a great way of making sure every individual as a personal invitation.
I like your idea of meeting with the current members at the beginning of the year and then assigning a list of non-members to members that can contact them individually. Be sure everyone is very well prepared!
